Grade 3

Students do activities for the development of their IB learner profiles such as thinking, communicating, knowing, and risk-taking with the program prepared in line with the PYP Curriculum frame based on MEB Social Studies outcomes. Inquiry units are formed in connection with transdisciplinary PYP Themes in order to complete the Ministry of National Education outcomes at every grade level until the end of academic year. It is very important for the children at this age to get to know themselves as individuals in the first place and then, gain environmental and public consciousness, adopting from near to far and from known to unknown inquiring principles. Information is associated with the life, which are learned receiving supports from such persons and institutions as travels, specialists, nongovernmental organizations in order for the units taught within the frame of inquiry to be examined by the students with tangible data. Students are directed to deliberatively develop and employ their inquiring skills, thinking skills, social skills, communication skills, self-management skills in order to reach the information.

Students are guided in following up visual and written media in relation with their age levels, interests, wonders and subjects as well. Following positive attitudes are intended to be developed by the students in the activities organized in individual and group studies; such as being respectful, creative, establishing empathy, cooperation, adopting national and international values. It is our main target to educate students who express themselves, have developed self-confidence and social sensitivity.  You can examine details of the themes, concepts and contents accentuated at the grade levels from inquiry program.


Turkish language lessons are taught in a spiral structure at every grade level in line with the scope and sequence comprising listening, reading, understanding, writing and visual reading and presentation subtopics. It is planned in accordance with PASS theories and their steps (Planning, Attention, Simultaneous, and Successive). Differentiated contents are prepared taking into consideration the differences of students with PASS Theory activities during Thinking Skills course hours. Students are encouraged to stay up to date by doing activities with regard to collecting-interpreting newspaper news at this grade level.

Letter - Envelope - Card Writing techniques are taught. Students are encouraged to prepare and conduct a questionnaire, write working report, and make interviews. Books are examined in details in the academic year, which are acquired in connection with the inquiry units or for the purposes of free reading. Writing activities and studies are carried out on critical reviews with regard to books. In this way, techniques pertaining to making suggestions, generating solutions, and informative and persuasive text writing are supported. An international perspective is developed, being in collaboration with the parents, in creation of awareness with regard to the other languages used in the school, learning how to greet in that language, answering questions about meanings and characteristics of other languages. Activities are carried out where a story translated from other language is read and compared with the corresponding section of the story in its original language. At the same time, students also gain ability to correctly understand what they watch, listen and read. It is ensured for them to recognize their own language and apply language rules enriching their vocabulary with different events. They are allowed to recognize different forms of writing and establish connection with what they read. An opportunity is provided for them to benefit from  such communication means as daily newspapers, periodicals, etc. internalizing their reading habits. It is targeted that they should use cursive script in their daily life effectively. Target is to educate students as individuals who can express themselves well, make deductions and solve problems acting on their own.


Outcomes of third grade Science course updated as of 2014-2015 Academic Year by MEB are carried out being associated with PYP inquiry units. It is our most basic target to explore, interpret in scientific processes,  and realize alternative thinking on science and techniques. Basic scientific concepts are examined in detail, which are studied about examining the nature we live and understanding with whom and how we are sharing the world we live.


It is aimed that students must be able to be in fourth grade equipped with a sound knowledge background by adding new skills to those learned in the previous grade in mathematics lessons. Students find a chance to improve such skills as organization of information, mathematical thinking, reasoning and estimation, problem-solving. Student are provided with such opportunities as observing different perspectives, developing ability of creative and critical thinking, and establishing correlations between their daily lives and other courses
